What is Walk-and-Talk Therapy?
It’s not a secret how much I love and enjoy hiking, walking, and being in nature! When my colleague and associate Brent Jarden mentioned he wanted to add walk-and-talk therapy to our menu of services, I cannot deny how excited I felt!
We are conveniently located in downtown Burlington, ON, close to the lakeshore, so when the weather conditions are favourable, this approach can benefit individuals who find movement, the outdoors, and nature a source of comfort.
Walk-and-talk therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which clients and therapists engage in sessions while walking outdoors. Rather than sitting in a traditional office, individuals walk side by side, allowing for a more relaxed, free-flowing conversation. This approach is often used in mindfulness-based therapy, trauma-informed therapy and other therapeutic modalities.
Walk-and-talk therapy is an enjoyable tool that combines the benefits of physical activity with the self-reflecting process of psychotherapy. By engaging in movement, most of us experience enhanced mood and greater well-being. And let’s not forget the mental health benefits of adding natural sunshine to the mix. Are you ready to take your therapy sessions outdoors?
Whether you explore walk-and-talk therapy with a professional or incorporate more movement into your daily routine, the evidence is clear: moving your body benefits your mind.
